About 4 kilometers west of Årjäng, located in Värmland County, Rabbalshede Kraft is developing the Årjäng SV2 wind farm. The farm consists of 8 wind turbines with a total height of 230 meters and an installed power of 4,2 MW per turbine. The annual production in the park is estimated to amount to approximately 111 GWh, which corresponds to household electricity for approximately 22 000 Swedish households with an average annual consumption of 5 000 kWh. Årjäng SV2 was commissioned in month of 2022 and has been developed in-house by Rabbalshede Kraft.
The construction of Årjäng SV2 began on March 4, 2021. The area where the park now stands originally consisted of hilly forest terrain located approximately 3 kilometers west of the town of Årjäng in Värmland municipality. The good wind conditions, proximity to electricity connections and the landowners' positive attitude to wind power created good conditions for a wind power establishment on the site. Rabbalshede Kraft's operating parks Årjäng Nordväst and Sydväst are also located in the immediate area.
"Over the years, both the landowners, the County Administrative Board and the residents in the area have been positive towards the prospect of building wind power in Årjäng. The latter is always a fundamental requirement for obtaining a permit. The fact that we also already have two operational parks in the area made it easier to get started, especially considering that all our parks use the same connection point", says Hans Svensson, Project Manager at Rabbalshede Kraft.
Challenges in the construction phase
As the start of construction coincided with the nesting period for the bird life in the area, the initial contracting work was paused almost immediately. Construction resumed again on June 15 and then began with felling of forest and road construction.
"Our biggest challenge in Årjäng has been the tight schedule in the construction phase. The fact that we were also forced to halt construction just when we were about to get started did not make matters any better. But that is often the case when we build parks in terrain with active animal life. Fortunately, we made it just in time for Vestas to begin turbine assembly in March 2022", says Hans Svensson.
Inspection and commissioning
The construction work was completed on February 28, 2022, and the project was then handed over to the turbine supplier Vestas, who could begin turbine assembly. The park's 8 turbines underwent a final inspection during the summer of 2022 and were formally commissioned in month. Shortly thereafter, work began to restore the land around the park, which was completed in month.

A unique collaboration project
During autumn of 2020, Rabbalshede Kraft and Euromekanik initiated a collaboration project that will provide 100% green hydrogen with the help of wind power. The goal is to open new possibilities for knowledge exchange and technology development for sustainable production of green hydrogen. The project has received grants from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and the initiative “Klimatklivet” which support local climate impact investments.

When completed, the park's annual production is expected to be about 4.2 GWh/year. Since the park is located in southern Sweden, it will contribute an important addition of renewable electricity in electricity price area 4, which currently has a deficit in electricity production.
In Truedstorp, south of Bjuv in north-western Skåne, Rabbalshede Kraft is developing two neighbouring solar parks that together are estimated to produce up to 4.0 GWh/year. As both parks are located in southern Sweden, they will contribute with an important addition of renewable electricity in electricity price area 4, which today has a deficit of electricity production.
We plan to start construction in 2025, so stay tuned here for updates on the project.
In connection to our existing wind farm in Femstenaberg in northern Bohuslän, we are now planning to add a solar park of up to 30 MW. When completed, the solar park is expected to produce nearly 30 GWh/year, which corresponds to the consumption of household electricity for about 6,000 Swedish households/year.
