Rabbalshede Kraft commissions its first Battery Energy Storage System

October 10, 2025, Rabbalshede Kraft has taken a historic step toward building the energy system of tomorrow. At its existing 46.2 MW Femstenaberg wind farm in southern Sweden, the Company has successfully commissioned its first large-scale Battery Energy Storage System ("BESS") facility – a 20 MW / 20 MWh installation – marking the inauguration of the Company's first hybrid energy park.

Rabbalshede Kraft is now one of a few energy producers in Sweden combining wind power and energy storage into a fully integrated system, operated as a single unit. By pairing the 20 MW battery with the existing 46.2 MW wind farm, Rabbalshede Kraft can now offer real time solutions to the energy grid. By storing surplus electricity during windy hours and delivering it when demand peaks, the Company contributes to a more flexible and stable grid. In addition, the battery will provide essential grid services such as balancing and frequency regulation to the Swedish electricity network.

The Femstenaberg hybrid park marks the beginning of several new initiatives in which Rabbalshede Kraft is developing smarter and more flexible renewable energy solutions. In forthcoming projects, the Company plans to continue developing fully integrated parks that combine renewable generation with storage —accelerating the transition toward a fossil-free energy system.

 


About Femstenaberg Energy Park

The Femstenaberg wind farm was commissioned in 2024 with seven wind turbines and an estimated annual production of 121 GWh. In 2024, Rabbalshede Kraft announced plans to make Femstenaberg the Company’s first hybrid park by expanding the site with both solar power and battery storage. The first step of this plan has now been realized with the commissioning of the Company’s first large-scale battery storage system – a 20 MW / 20 MWh facility. Rabbalshede Kraft also plans to add a solar installation to the park in 2027. The energy park is located in Strömstad Municipality in Sweden, contributing valuable renewable electricity to Sweden’s Price Area 3, which currently experiences a deficit in power production.

Through the Utvecklingskraft (“Development Power”) initiative, Rabbalshede Kraft shares part of the revenues from Femstenaberg with local initiatives that strengthen the surrounding community — for example, projects supporting local associations, outdoor recreation, or the preservation of natural and cultural environments. Examples include school field trips, contributions to new barbecue or playground areas, or the development of illuminated walking trails.
